Introduction
Microsoft Clipchamp is a browser-based video editor that is integrated with other apps in Microsoft 365. You can use it for basic edits (such as trimming the start/ end of a video), creating screen recordings, adding stock footage/ music to videos to make them more engaging, and even creating AI voiceovers from a text script.
Can I use it?
All staff and students can use Microsoft Clipchamp as part of the University’s Microsoft 365 for Education licence.
Method 1 – Go directly to Clipchamp
Use the link below to access Clipchamp – you’ll need to sign in with your normal Coventry email and password.

Then select an option to get started, e.g. ‘Upload’, ‘Screen recording’, ‘Video project’.
Method 2 – Open a video from OneDrive, Sharepoint or Teams in Clipchamp
You can open videos that are saved in Sharepoint (such as Teams meeting recordings) or videos you’ve saved in your work OneDrive account directly in Clipchamp so that you can edit them.
From OneDrive or Sharepoint, select the three dots next to the video file name or right-click the video, then select ‘Open > Edit in Clipchamp’. If you don’t see this option, it’s possible you aren’t the video owner.
From Teams, select ‘Open in Stream’ to open the video in Microsoft’s cloud video player, Microsoft Stream. Then select the ‘Clipchamp’ icon above the video to open in Clipchamp for editing. If you don’t see the ‘Clipchamp’ icon, it’s possible you aren’t the video owner.
What can I do with it?
You can use Clipchamp to:
- Do basic edits on your existing videos (e.g. trim the start/ end).
- Add stock footage and music to existing videos to make them more engaging.
- Create videos from scratch using the screen recording feature and stock footage.
- Make an AI narration of a text script – select ‘Record & Create > Create > Text to speech’.
- Create captions for your videos.
