When delivering an in-person, face-to-face session it’s natural to see each participant as an individual person. However, it’s much more difficult to humanise a participant when they are anonymous within a digital tool. Why not ask your students to add a head-and-sholders profile picture to the digital tools you use to help build a sense of community? This helps both you and the students build a sense of belonging and cohesive community. Step-by-step instructions for the three main tools (Microsoft Teams and Aula) are provided below and could be used as part of the first session in a module.
Teams
- Log into Teams at https://teams.microsoft.com/
- Click on your initials in the top-right
- Click “Change Picture”
Aula
- Log into Aula at https://coventry.aula.education/
- Click the icon on the top-left
- Click on the icon to change your profile picture
Other Tools
Other tools such as Padlet also allow for custom profile pictures to be used. Please contact the Learning Enhancement Team if you need support or directions on other tools.
