There are a few fully online courses offered by the University. For all other courses it is expected that students have campus based teaching and learning sessions and that they attend these. Students sometimes ask if they can switch to be fully online/ not attend any sessions. This is not usually possible and you should follow the guidance below for referring these students for support.
International Students
Students who are subject to UKVI attendance monitoring must attend sessions on campus and cannot be switched to fully online/ remote delivery. If these students have issues affecting their attendance please asks them to contact Customer Services for advice about support.
Note that if UKVI monitored students leave the U.K. during normal teaching semesters/ blocks this may have implications for their visa and they should be advised to talk to Customer Services for advice as soon as possible.

Home students
Students’ eligibility to SLC maintenance loans might be impacted if they study online/ fully remotely. This is because where all aspects of a full-time course are provided online, the course will be treated as a distance learning course by the SLC.
We record attendance and may need to report students to the SLC if they do not attend for extended periods which may also impact their funding.
If students have issues affecting their attendance please ask them to talk to Customer Services for advice about support.

Approval for students to study fully online
In the rare cases where a request to be fully online is appropriate, final decisions will be taken by the Director of Registry Services. Timetabling will not change students to online study without this confirmation.
