Inspera Naming Conventions

As Inspera is a role-based system it is important there is clarity in naming of questions, question sets and assessments (tests).  For example, being a role-based system it means the individual scheduling the assessment may not be the same person who created the question set.  Hence, the need for naming conventions to ensure clarity in selecting the right set of questions.  In addition clear naming will aid searching for questions when adding to assessments and help Educational Technologists when they are providing support in using Inspera.

How Assessments are named must also support the University Group work on timely supportive student interventions; through the identification of individual students who have not submitted summative submissions. These naming conventions are therefore aligned with Coventry University Group Assessment Submission Links – naming conventions.

Questions and Question Sets

All Questions and Question Sets that you create will be stored together within an organisational unit, based on discipline areas, which you will share with colleagues.  This presents opportunities for sharing questions, it does also mean that it is important that all Questions and Question Sets are clearly named.  As Inspera is a role-based system it is important there is certainty which Question Sets need to be assigned to each assessment, clear naming is required for this reason.

The following naming conventions are required.

Question names must include an overall label, section and specific question reference.  For example:

  • Biosciences Genetics Ethics Legal Q1
  • or where questions are specific to modules AB1234 Topic subtopic Q

Labels (i.e. keywords) can be added to questions in Inspera to help with searching.

Question Sets must specify the module code – component – assessment – (formative/summative) – semester & year [and any other distinguishing label i.e. for July resit period]

  • 7123ABC – CW2 – exam (summative) – S3 – 2425MaySep
  • 5432ABC – CW1 – phase test (summative) – S2 – 2324JanMay
  • •1234ABC – quiz – (formative) – S1 – 2324SepJan

Assessments

When assessments are scheduled these need to align with the Coventry University Group Assessment Submission Links – naming conventions and the naming used for Question Sets.  The name to specify the module code – component – assessment – (formative/summative) – semester & year [and any other distinguishing label i.e. for July resit period]

  • 7123ABC – CW2 – exam (summative) – S3 – 2425MaySep
  • 5432ABC – CW1 – phase test (summative) – S2 – 2324JanMay
  • 1234ABC – quiz (formative) – S1 – 2324SepJan
