Inspera update – November 2025
Colleagues, for the November 2025 Inspera update there have only been minor changes to Inspera and so the focus of this update is to provide refresh updates prompted by queries that have come through over the past few weeks on using Inspera.
A separate communication will be provided in the next few weeks on the introduction of Item Banks and associated functionality. We will also be providing briefing sessions on those changes.

Grading
Filter Questions to show Unmarked Answers
Inspera includes filters within Grading to help quickly identify any marking that is incomplete. Following the November release, it is possible for Graders to filter questions from in both “Candidate in Focus” and “Questions” workspaces to show questions that are yet to be marked. In Candidate in Focus there is a column called Marking Status indicating which questions were marked for a specific candidate. Now, a column called Marking Status will be available in the Questions workspace, indicating if a specific question has been graded for all candidates. Both menus will also have a filter available to filter “unmarked” questions.
This does not yet include listing the candidates for which a question was not marked.
If you have already set up your test this feature will not be available, it will only be active on tests set up and activated after the release and is only available for Graders. For more information, please see Grade workspace and on how to create a Filter.
Scheduling
Individual Start Time
While not a new feature, the ‘Individual Start Time’ feature has now been enabled. This feature can be used where you have a test with different scheduled sittings. Using this feature, you will be able to set different start times for the students to match their scheduled sitting. For more information see Individual Start and End Time.
Refresher updates
Based on queries that have come through during September and October some refresher links are included below.
Adding Additional time for Students for tests with Multiple Attempts
If you have students who need additional time for tests which allow multiple attempts if you add the additional time for the students before activating the test, the additional time will cascade to the child tests that are created for each attempt. If added after the test is activated the additional time will need to be added to each child test. And unfortunately deactivating the test to add the time to the parent test does not work, it must be added before the initial activation. See Giving students extra time in Inspera.
Showing student marks on tests with multiple attempts
For tests using multiple attempts it is possible to allow students access to a Summary Page after each attempt showing the marks achieved for each question. The summary page shows which questions they got correct, partially correct, wrong or which were unanswered, without allowing them to see the questions again. How to set this up is outlined in this video.
Inspera assessment templates
The assessment templates have been reviewed and updated to reflect the new features available on Inspera. While the overall structure and purpose of each template remain the same, the Core Assessment Template is now designed in two versions.
- Core Assessment (System Control)
The system-controlled template automatically generates a new attempt as soon as a candidate completes the previous one. This option is typically used for assessments with automatically marked questions, where no manual intervention is required between attempts. To use this template, a Planner needs to set the number of attempts when scheduling the test.
- Core Assessment (Grader Control).
The grader-controlled template requires the grader to manually enable each subsequent attempt. After the initial attempt, candidates cannot begin another attempt until the grader releases it. This template is commonly used for assessments with manually and/or automatically marked questions. It allows the grader to grade the submission first and then decide whether a further attempt is appropriate for the candidate.
