Aula – Inspera Integration

September 2024 update

As of September 2024 the Aula and Inspera integration has been updated.  The key changes are:

  • Links to Inspera can now be created from Aula in both the Assignments block and in Journey > Materials.  There are though differences in the features between the two integrations.
  • The Assignments block integration which should now be the main integration link to use provides for:
    • grade pass back from Inspera to Aula
    • Students on the Aula site will be automatically pulled through to Inspera, enabling additional time to be added where needed before the assessment is open.
  • The integration link from Journey > Materials in Aula has more limited functionality.  Grade pass back will not work with this integration, it is therefore recommended this integration is used for formative tasks only.

Please note these integrations only work with the Inspera Production server (https://coventryassessment.inspera.com/admin#home). If you do not have access to the Production server then please fill in this form: Access Request – Inspera Production Server. If you have issues completing the form, please email the Education Technologists at learningenhance@coventry.ac.uk.

Please note that these changes are not retrospective.  These changes do not apply to any assessments set up before the 20th September 2024.

Details of the two integration links available are provided below.

Assignment Block integration

This integration must be used for summative assessments but can also be used for formative.

This integration provides the following functionality:

  • Direct access from Aula to the test on Inspera for students.
  • Students are pulled through from Aula to Inspera; this means additional time can be added for students in Inspera where needed.  When students are pulled through their ID is taken from the first part of their email address.
  • Grade pass back to Aula once grading has been confirmed in Inspera.  NB when passing back the grade it will be converted to a score out of 100.  So when setting up the integration link in Aula ensure the maximum mark is set to 100.

Set up steps

The steps to follow in setting up the integration are outlined below.  They are also shown in this video.

  1. In Aula click on Journey > Assignments > New Assignment
  2. Select Inspera test
  3. In the Set up your assignment window that opens enter:
    1. Title of assessment [ensure you use the specified naming convention]
    2. Enter description [not a required field]
    3. Enter Open date and Due Date
    4. Grades release can be populated but is not a required field; this information is not passed to Inspera
    5. Set maximum grade as 100 [It is important this is set as 100 to ensure the grade passed from Aula to Universe is weighted correctly]
  4. Click Save
  5. From the list of assessments in Aula click on the three dots in the top right hand corner of the selected test and choose ‘Open in Inspera Test’
    1. This will open the Set up screen in Inspera
  6. Once in Inspera follow the Set up procedure as outlined in this article on the Knowledge Base https://teach.coventry.domains/articles/creating-an-inspera-assessment/

Journey > Materials Integration

It is recommended that this integration link is only used for formative tasks as it does not provide grade pass back to Inspera.  Students will be able to access their scores for the test via the Inspera Candidate Dashboard – https://coventryassessment.inspera.com/

The steps to follow in setting up the integration are outlined below.  They are also shown in this video.

  1. In Aula click on Journey > Materials
  2. Add a new page.  On this page select the + symbol > integrations > Inspera
  3. This will add an Inspera link into the page on Aula.
    1. It is recommended that you add details of the assessment on this page as the link provided just states Inspera
  4. Click on the Inspera link and this will then take you through to Inspera and the Set up screen to schedule your assessment
  5. Once in Inspera follow the Set up procedure as outlined in this article on the Knowledge Base https://teach.coventry.domains/articles/creating-an-inspera-assessment/

General comments

If you change the dates on an assessment after the integration has been set up these will need to be checked and updated separately in both Aula and Inspera.
