Introduction to Grade in Inspera

This article provides an overview of the Grade module in Inspera.  This module has different workspaces which are outlined below.  Access to these workspaces is dependent upon the roles you have allocated; both Planner and Grader roles have access to Grade however the Grader role does not have access to all the workspaces.  The article also provides pointers to what functions are available from the ‘Options’ menu.

Links will be provided throughout to articles on the Inspera Help Centre and also further articles on the University’s Teaching Knowledge Base.  For an overview of Grade see – Grader – Getting Started

Marking 2.0 in Inspera is being updated by Inspera. Information on the September 2024 changes in available in this article, Marking 2.0 navigation and workspace refresh (September 2024)

Grade Workspaces

Grading Overview (available to both Planner and Grader)

This workspace provides an overview of marking on the assessment, providing an overview of the status of students (candidates in Inspera) and of Graders.

Candidate in Focus (available to Planner and Grader)

This workspace provides a more detailed overview of the candidate results and marking progress.  The Planner and Grader do have different views in this workspace.

The Grader and Planner have access to a full candidate list, showing marks and grades plus a full question list for each candidate.  The Grader does also have a grade option; if grade scales have been selected this is where the option to ‘use calculated’ grades is selected.

Marking (available to both Planner and Grader)

This is the workspace where student submissions can be viewed, and their work marked and feedback annotations provided.

Explanations Overview (available to Planner only)

Explanations is the space for providing students with general feedback at the assessment level, rather than at the question level.  This workspace provides an overview of the creation and dissemination of this feedback to students.

Explanations (available to both Planner and Grader)

The Explanations workspace is where individual feedback, at the assessment level, can be provided to students.  This can be in the form of written feedback, recorded audio or through file attachments.  The view, which is in three columns, provides a list of all candidates, individual question responses and the explanations area.

Sending Explanations is a separate task to confirming grades.  Explanations can be sent individually, this can be done at any point and does not need to wait until Grading is complete.  Please note it is advised not to do this, grading should be completed first.  To send Explanations to all students, Graders need to have marked Explanations as ‘Ready’ and confirmed Grades.

Assessment Feedback (available to Planner only)

Assessment Feedback is the feature that allows for the release of common feedback to all students taking the assessment via the Candidate Report.  It is only the Planner who can populate this feedback.  The feedback can be provided by writing into the feedback field, recording audio or attaching files.

Questions (available to both Planner and Grader)

This workspace provides an overview of the questions and Sections within the test.  It shows the weighting for each Section and individual question weighting.

Candidate Report (available to Planner and Grader)

The Candidate Report pulls together all the student feedback and marks and is released to the student once grading is confirmed.  This workspace allows Graders and Planners to view the individual Candidate Report for each student.
