This March 2026 Inspera update provides details on the improvements made on the Safe Exam Browser feature, current Inspera development, and reminders to help with setting up tests for the upcoming Block.

Inspera Updates

The ‘Quit Safe Exam Browser’ button in Candidate Dashboard is recaptioned to ‘Quit Session’.

The button has been renamed from ‘Quit Safe Exam Browser’ to ‘Quit Session’ so that it is independent of Safe Exam Browser (SEB) or Inspera Integrity Browser (IIB). This button will only appear during an assessment where either SEB or IIB is required.

Item Banks

Inspera has announced that the new mandatory date for the implementation of item banks will be in January 2028. This will allow the institution to move all access groups into the item banks in several phases. Inspera is also working on the new privacy by default capabilities for the Item Banks. Once this work is complete, all Inspera users at CU will be briefed on the changes and development of Item Banks.

Grading Workflow

Inspera continues to expand its functionality to support more efficient and integrated assessment workflows. A new feature will be made available soon, allowing colleagues to manage grading workflows directly within Inspera. Additionally, users will benefit from a holistic dashboard overview, providing greater visibility of marking progress and workflow management.

Inspera users at Coventry University will receive further briefings once this feature becomes available on the platform.

Inspera Originality pilot

Thank you to all colleagues who took part in the Inspera Originality (IO) pilot. Your engagement in the workshops, thoughtful discussions, and detailed feedback have been invaluable.

You’ve provided important insights into integration, reporting functionality, similarity detection, AI indicators, and overall usability. The constructive and critical reflections shared throughout the pilot are helping to ensure that any future decisions are informed by real academic practice and experience.

Authoring Interface update

Inspera will be updating the Author interface, where Questions and Question Sets are created, early in 2026. We do now have access to the new Author interface on our Staging tenancy, to allow it be previewed and to provide feedback. If you are interested in trying out the new interface and would be prepared to commit to providing feedback to Inspera then please complete the form below and we can then ensure you have access to preview the new interface.

Scheduling tests

Aula integration – when scheduling your summative assessment (core and applied core), it is recommended that you set up the integration link within the Assignment Block which automatically adds students into Inspera and provides grade pass back to Aula.

Naming conventions – please remember to use the required naming conventions when creating your questions and question sets and scheduling the test. These were updated in September to reflect the move to Block delivery.

With the move to Item Banks, your assessment content will be located with other assessment content in that Item Bank. Ensuring your questions and question sets are clearly identified will therefore be essential to ensure you can easily locate them for adding to tests and reuse. If your questions and question sets are not yet clearly labelled, they will need to be updated when the content is moved across to Item Banks.
